Professor Buba Wahe

NAERLS Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria

Dr. Buba Wahe, is a seasoned livestock specialist and a principal extension expert at the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. With over 15 years of extensive experience in livestock and poultry production, nutrition and climate smart livestock production. Dr. Wahe has dedicated his career to advancing livestock management, agricultural productivity, and extension and advisory services across Nigeria. His work encompasses livestock production, consultancy services, teaching, research, training, dissemination of agricultural technologies and climate resilience activities benefiting farmers, youth, and women in rural communities.

Dr. Wahe holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Animal Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a B. Agric. from the same institution. He has also pursued advanced certifications in sustainable environmental studies and MSc in Environmental studies with specialization in climate change showcasing his commitment to continuous learning. His academic journey is complemented by specialized training in Open Data Kit software and climate-smart agricultural practices.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wahe has collaborated on numerous high-impact projects, including the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (LPRES), Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy, and Agro-Processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement support (APPEALS). His expertise spans livestock management, policy development and communication, and value chain development. Notably, he has led capacity-building programmes for thousands of farmers and youth, equipping them with modern practices to improve productivity and livelihoods.

As Head of the Livestock and Fisheries Department at NAERLS, Dr. Wahe oversees strategic planning, staff supervision, stakeholder engagement and also focuses on technical support, research, and extension material development for livestock farmers.

A contributor to the agricultural literature, Dr. Wahe has authored several extension publications and training manuals, addressing critical topics such as livestock nutrition, poultry housing, and climate change adaptation strategies in agriculture. His dedication has earned him multiple honours, including the NYSC State Merit Award and certificates of excellence from professional bodies.

Dr. Wahe is an active member of professional organizations such as the Nigerian Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (NIFAAS), Africa Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS), Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services (GFRAS), Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN), Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) and the Nigerian Society for Animal Production (NSAP). Beyond his professional endeavours, he contributes to community development as a Special Marshal with the Federal Road Safety Corps and an Associate Member of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
