2018 for NIFAAS can best be described as the year of capacity building; a year of general learning and network facilitation.

Training of Trainers Workshop for NIFAAS Gender Working Group, 25th January 2018 at the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) Training Hall, along Ilorin-Jebba Road, Kwara State. A total of twenty-eight (28) registered members of NIFAAS-GWG (comprising 8 men and 20 women) and three (3) unregistered participants were in attendance.

 

Capacity Building on Youth Entrepreneurship and Mentorship for the NIFAAS Youth Working Group in Nigeria, 26 January 2018. The training workshop was on Youth Entrepreneurship and Mentorship, 26 January 2018 at the ADP Training Hall, along Ilorin-Jebba Road, Kwara State. A total of twenty (23) registered members of NIFAAS-YWG (8 male and 15 female) participated.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Capacity Building Workshop for the NIFAAS ICT Working Group on the Use of Web2.0 for Efficient Agricultural Advisory Services in Nigeria. It was a one-day capacity building workshop, 28 March 2018 at the Fadama House Conference Hall, Wuse II, Abuja. A total of fifteen (15) registered members of NIFAAS-ICT Working Group (comprising 11 men and 4 women) were in attendance.

GFRAS/DLEC/NIFAAS/NAERLS National Workshop on Strengthening AEAS’ Capacities in Nigeria
A 3-day workshop for members on Strengthening Extension Advisory Systems in Nigeria, in collaboration with its continental parent body, the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS) and DLEC and NAERLS. The workshop was held between 22nd and 25th of May 2018. Lead papers were presented by Professor Johnson Ekpere, Professor I.O. Oladele and Ms Consolata Acayo. At the end of the workshop, a steering committee was set up, headed by Professor Ike Nwachukwu (NIFAAS Vice President, South), to design a formidable document on agricultural extension and advisory service professionalization in Nigeria. Other members were Professor L.A. Akinbile (AESON), Mr Ifidon Ohiomoba (FDAE), Professor J.O. Oladeji (RuSAN), Professor I.O. Oladele (SAFE/WINROCK), and Dr. F.O. Issa (NAERLS).

 

 

NIFAAS-AFAAS National Workshop on Enhancing Postharvest Handling for Food Security, NAERLS/ABU, Conference Hall, Zaria, 25th May, 2018. The general objective was to sensitize actors to the challenges of PHM in major agricultural commodities to promote actions, share and disseminate information on the existing technologies and good practices towards sustainable promotion of PHM among smallholder farmers. The one-day workshop was facilitated by Mr Jerry Egessa of AFAAS and Dr Margaret Koyenikan (the Group leader). There were about 60 participants. The workshop was concluded with a sensitization campaign to grains traders in Samaru Market, Zaria.

 

 

FARA/NIFAAS/NAERLS TAAT-CDTO 1st Cohort Training on Agricultural Innovation Platform, 19-22 November 2018 at Chida International Hotel, Utako District, Abuja. The Training of Trainers on Establishment of Innovation Platforms as Technology Outreach Instrument for Scaling TAAT Commodities Technologies in Nigeria was jointly organised by the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), the Nigerian Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (NIFAAS) and the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), as well as the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN).

 

Conduct of the 4th NIFAAS Annual General Meeting, Abuja 2018, at Fadama House Conference Hall, Wuse 2, Abuja on 23 November. The AGM created 4 new working Groups (Innovation Platform, Climate Change/ Smart Agriculture, Livestock and Aquaculture groups) in addition to the five (5) existing ones.
